Left Zion pretty early, 7:00 AM and headed west and north hoping for a pretty spot somewhere in the mountains, before we would launch off into Nevada desert. We have been to lots of canyons and, we loved em, but we’re kind of canyoned out. Everybody asks if we’ve been to the Grand Canyon, but we crave high mountains so we're working north - not south.
The last part of the day’s path took us through dry valley with desert to the west (where we’re going) and mountains off to the east. At the little town of Beaver, we turned east on a state road that wound up into the Fishlake National Forest.
A ways in and up we found Mahogany Cove Campground. It’s located on a mezzanine between the bottom and the top, nestled and hidden among the cedars and pines in the middle of a switchback in the road that went on to the top of the mountain.
We were the only campers here so the all these things, including the snow capped mountains as back drop, seemed placed here just for us. The isolation also served well for me to try out our new solar shower bag. I filled it, laid it out in the sun to warm, hung it on a limb, got naked, and took a warm shower. How bout that!! Now, we’re looking for a little tent shower enclosure (Wal Mart sells em) because Deb has explained a little more privacy would be nice.
The squirrels agreed!
